The Administration Menu

First we will look at the administration menu.

You will see several links:

  • My Account
  • Create content
  • Recent posts
  • Log out

My Account

My account will allow you to update your profile information. As an author of content people may be interested to know a little about you. At the bottom of each story you publish for the Email Marketing Manual there is a link to more information on the author.

Here you can update your username (also login name) your registered email address and password.

Along with this information you can add a custom signature, this will appear at the bottom of any comments you make on Email Marketing Manual stories, you can also add an avatar or picture which will appear along with your comments.

Clicking on the Personal information tab will allow you to enter your real name, biography and a link to your own website.

You can also add details of your personal Twitter account. When you publish a new story for Email Marketing Manual, the system will automatically update your Twitter feed with a link to the story.

There are two other feature available from My Account.

Track gives you direct access to all stories you have ever written.

File Browser allows you to upload new images or other files relating to your stories. This can also be accessed when writing a new or editing an existing story.

Create content

Here is where you can write new Email Marketing Manual stories.

You can edit a stories title, the categorie(s) which it features in as well as provide a list of keywords relating to the articles content.

The body field is where you enter your stories content. By default this window allows for the entry of raw html. You can also use the text editor by clicking on the rich text editor button found below the box.

Article Teaser Breaks

When creating an article the system will automatically create a teaser after the first 500 words. This can be customised by adding the Drupal Teaser Break in Manually.

drupal break line

If you have a lead image make sure it appears after the first or second paragraph and add the break line below the image. This will add the image to the teaser when it appears on the front page or the categories page.

When you have finished you can click the preview button to see how your story will appear. You can continue editing the story on the same page by scrolling down to the edit section.

When you are happy with everything check to make sure the article is NOT set to publish and press save. This will notify the editor that a new article has been submitted and is ready for approval.

Editing Content and Revisions

Once you have saved an story, you can edit it. This can be done by either accessing the article via Track in My Account or by clicking on the Recent posts link in the administration menu.

Recent Posts displays all stories on Email Marketing Manual. If the story was recent it may appear at the top of the list, you may find it easier to look at your own content via My Account.

you will see that at the top of the story three tabs, View, Edit and Revisions.

Clicking on Edit will put the story into edit mode and allow you to make changes to the story. You should add information to the Revision Information field before saving the story again. This will help you and the editor review the content.
